Peel Primer – All about Acids

What do you think of when you hear the word “chemical peel”?
Toxic chemicals? Burn agents? Drain cleaner?

In reality a chemical peel is one of the most effective ways to encourage cell turnover and lighten and brighten your skin. Peels are comprised of different acids, or chemicals, that are naturally occurring and are chosen for their different skin treating properties. The source of these chemicals is often surprising!

Glycolic: Sugar cane
Lactic: Sour milk
Salicylic: Willow bark
Retinoic: Vitamin A
Mandelic: Almonds
Malic: Apples
Tartaric Acid: Grape

Some of the conditions a chemical peel can improve are:

  • fine lines around the eyes and mouth
  • wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • some types of acne
  • mild acne scarring
  • age spots, dark patches due to pregnancy, or hormonal birth control (Melasma)
  • dull texture and color

Call me for a personal consultation, Fall and Winter are the perfect times to treat your skin with a chemical peel.
